A total of 132 four-week-old weanling pigs were divided into 3 treatment groups randomly, a saccharin group (50 g/t basal diet), ruzhuxiang group (1000 g/t basal diet) and control group (basal diet only), according to body weight, sex and genetic base. A one-factorial random block design was adopted in the experiment, with 4 replications of 11 piglets each for each treatment group. The average daily feed intakes of the saccharin group and ruzhuxiang group were higher than that of the control group, increasing by 8.7 and 9.4%, respectively, but there was no significant difference between them. The average daily gain of the saccharin group and ruzhuxiang group was higher than that of the control group, increasing by 9.8 and 7.4%, respectively, but there was no significant difference between them either. There was no significant difference in feed conversion efficiency among the 3 groups. The cost of feed for 1 kg liveweight gain of the saccharin group and control group was close.
