Abstract

A method is described for the estimation of the new sweetener Acesulfam-K (the K salt of 6-methyl-1,2,3 oxthiazin-4(3H)-one-2,2-dioxide manufactured by Hoechst AG, D-6230 Frankfurt/Main) in pig starters, milk replacers and premixes by HPLC. The compound is extracted from the samples with water, the extract purified and analysed by reversed phase HPLC at 227 nm. Recoveries of 94.5-105.7% were obtained for 100 mg/kg added to milk replacers. It is claimed that the sweetener is 200 times as potent as a 3% saccharin solution and it is used in foods and feeds.
