Abstract

The aromatic substances Firanor 24 (S) was added to the feed of lactating sows and to the feed of their young from 35 until 60 days old. Other sows and piglets given similar mixtures without Firanor. From 21 days old, the experimental piglets had greater average weekly gains except for between 42 and 49 days. From 21 to 28 days and 49 to 56 days the differences were significant. Piglets given Firanor lost less weight at weaning and at 60 days old weighed on average 620 g more than the controls, an insignificant difference. Intake of feed/kg gain was slightly greater with Firanor.
