Abstract

From 35 to 70 days old 54 Large White X Landrace piglets were given ground maize which was untreated, pelleted, expanded or flaked or the ground protein nucleus of maize. Piglets preferred the flaked maize and the protein nucleus to other feeds. Piglets 60 to 85 days old preferred pelleted to ground maize. Addition of 4% substances such as coriander, fir needles and mint increased feed intake by 9 to 14% and gain by 11 to 23% in piglets 45 to 95 days old.
